McDermott recognised for offshore execution at Oceanus Awards 2026
The company won for delivering offshore transportation and installation services for a pipelay and heavy lift project.
McDermott’s Subsea and Floating Facilities execution of a heavy lift and pipelay project in Sarawakian waters was named the Offshore Energy Project of the Year - Malaysia winner at the Oceanus Awards 2026. The award marks another milestone in McDermott’s long-standing presence in Malaysia, and reflects the successful delivery of large-scale offshore installation activities supporting the development of multiple gas fields offshore Sarawak.
The project scope included the installation of three wellhead platforms, 32 kilometres of pipeline, one kilometre of flexible pipeline, two risers connected to existing facilities, and a complete system pre-commissioning. Led by the Kuala Lumpur-based engineering and project management team, the project was completed safely and ahead of schedule. Offshore operations leveraged McDermott’s derrick lay vessel 2000, a subcontractor vessel and were supported by a fleet of 25 marine assets, including nine Malaysian-flagged vessels.
Execution was delivered through two offshore campaigns. The first, conducted in 2024, covered offshore structure installation and pipeline laying, whilst the second campaign focused on subsea installation and system pre-commissioning activities in 2025.
Operational and safety performance was also outstanding, with the project achieving more than one million safe work hours.
Another key factor in the project’s success was strong collaboration with local partners. The project team leveraged Sarawak’s local fabrication capability to ensure timely fabrication, loadout, and installation of offshore structures. More than ten marine spreads and numerous local service providers were also involved in the project, reinforcing the strength of Malaysia’s offshore supply chain.
Beyond technical achievements, this project demonstrates how international expertise and local partnerships can work together to efficiently deliver offshore developments.
