Inmarsat Expands Presence in Singapore to Support Growing Asia Pacific Customer Base
Launch of World's First Global High-speed mobile broadband service driving expansion throughout the Region
Inmarsat, the world's leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has officially opened its new Singapore office. This new facility is Inmarsat’s largest in the Asia Pacific region. The 1,700 square meter (19,500 square feet) office is located in Toa Payoh, Central Region Singapore, and includes a solutions lab, demonstration capabilities, training rooms, a knowledge center, support center, and enhanced production and storage facilities.
The opening ceremony was attended by Inmarsat's CEO, Rupert Pearce, and Mr. Beh Kain Teik, Executive Director of the Office for Space Technology and Industry (OSTIn), Singapore Economic Development Board, along with many of Inmarsat’s partners and customers.
According to Rupert Pearce, CEO of Inmarsat, “Demand for Inmarsat’s mobile broadband services is increasing across the region, and this facility reflects our confidence in the growth potential of Asia Pacific. Through this new facility, we are confirming our ongoing commitment to Singapore as the base for our regional operations.”
Inmarsat also expects the demand for their services to rise following the global commercial launch of their latest satellite fleet, Global Xpress (GX), at the end of last year. The company’s core markets, including Aviation, Enterprise, Government, and Maritime industries, continue to see increased interest, particularly from sectors that have not previously utilized satellite communications.
Inmarsat’s commitment to investment extends beyond just regional support facilities. Last month, the company announced its investment in two Inmarsat-6 satellites, which will combine both L-band and Ka-band frequencies to enhance its satellite services and coverage.
Singapore has been Inmarsat’s Asia Pacific headquarters since 2008. The company attributes its decision to expand its facilities to Singapore’s exceptional infrastructure, innovative culture, and access to a deep pool of talent, all of which are vital as the company continues its growth in the Asia Pacific region.
In conjunction with the new office opening, Inmarsat announced a new partnership with local telecommunications provider SingTel to provide L-TAC services. This agreement will enable SingTel to deliver beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) mobile communications for government users in the Asia Pacific region, further strengthening Inmarsat's role in the government sector.
Key Singapore partners and customers of Inmarsat include SingTel, Singapore Airlines, AddValue, ST Engineering, MediaCorp, Kemilinks International, and many others.
Inmarsat, established in 1979, is a global leader in mobile satellite communications. The company provides reliable voice and high-speed data services to governments, enterprises, and organizations around the world. Inmarsat operates in over 60 locations, with a presence in major ports and centers of commerce across every continent.
