China's economic development framework, the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, is currently serving as the hottest topic in the shipping and business world. UBM Asia, the organizers of Marintec China, the largest and most authoritative trade fair in Asia, is pleased to announce the focus of this topic and surrounding business opportunities at the Marintec China 2015 Senior Maritime Forum.
Dr. Dostain Khan Jamaldini, Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, and Prof. Paolo Costa, President of the Venice Port Authority, are two of the many distinguished speakers set to present at this year's 2015 forum. The event will be held from November 30 to December 3 at the Kerry Hotel Pudong in Shanghai.
The Belt and Road initiative, unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, aims to promote prosperity in regions spanning from China to Africa and Europe. Gwadar Port, located in Balochistan, Pakistan, is at one end of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which stretches to Kashgar in Xinjiang, China. With roads, railways, and pipelines to transport oil and gas, this corridor serves as a bridge for China's planned Maritime Silk Route.
Mr. Jamaldini, who has been Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority since November 2013, previously served in various high-level positions in the Balochistan government. China’s planned 21st Century Maritime Silk Road will connect ports in China to those in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including Venice. This famous Italian city was featured as a trading port on the ancient Silk Road.
Prof. Costa, who has been President of the Venice Port Authority since 2008, is also President-in-charge of the North Adriatic Ports Association. Prior to his current appointment, Prof. Costa served in academia and public service, including as Minister of Public Works and Urban Areas, Mayor of Venice, and President of the European Parliament Transport Committee.
Mr. Fang Huaijin, Vice President of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd, will address speeding up the Phase 4 Project of Yangshan Port, completing the world's largest first-class automatic pier, and participating in the state strategy of The Belt and Road.
Additional internationally recognized speakers include Dr. Sun Licheng, Vice Chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies and Chairman & President of China Classification Society (CCS), who will keynote on the commercial and regulatory environment for shipping in the next five years. Prof. Martin Stopford, President - Research Services at Clarksons Platou, will also return this year as a keynote speaker. These speakers are among more than fifty who will address the Senior Maritime Forum.
"We have a stellar line-up of other speakers from fields ranging from shipping innovation and port management to banking and finance at the Senior Maritime Forum," said Ms. Stella Fung, Event Director of Marintec China.
Now in its 18th edition, the Forum is a pivotal platform for maritime industry professionals. The theme of the Senior Maritime Forum 2015 is "Innovation Drives Development, the Green Agenda Guides the Future." The Forum will be held alongside Marintec China 2015, taking place from December 1-4, 2015, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
