MACN launches three-year project to combat maritime corruption

The Siemens-backed project promotes integrity across MACN’s global network.

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) initiated a three-year project across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Germany to combat corruption and promote compliance in the maritime supply chain.

Named "Transparent Trade Routes: Strengthening Integrity in Maritime Supply Chains,” the project is funded by the Siemens Integrity Initiative with the campaign marking the continuation of a six-year partnership between organisations.

The network is currently streamlining multi-stakeholder collaboration and providing guidance and tools to address corruption and reinforce regulatory compliance in the marine industry of the three countries through various projects, such as HelpDesk and Integrity Training program.

According to MACN, the project has a Collective Action approach, where it ties businesses, governments, and civil society together to counter corruption and promote transparent, fair maritime operations.

Cecilia Müller Torbrand, CEO of MACN, highlighted that the organisation’s collective action approach can drive change even in the most challenging operating environments when stakeholders commit to shared principles.

Since MACN’s foundation in 2011, it has already garnered over 220 member companies globally, with helpdesks in countries, such as India, Egypt, Nigeria, and Ukraine.
