China’s shipbuilding sector retains global lead in 2025

The country’s shipbuilding output reached 53.69 million DWT.

China remained the world’s leading shipbuilding nation in 2025 for the 16th straight year, according to figures from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology via Xinhua report.

Shipbuilding output climbed 11.4% from the previous year to 53.69 million deadweight tonnes (DWT), making up 56.1% of global production.

New orders reached 107.82 million DWT, securing a 69% share of the worldwide market.

Outstanding orders totalled 274.42 million DWT by the end of December, up 31.5% year on year and accounting for 66.8% of global demand.
