Indian Register of Shipping classifies crude tanker Lila Jamnagar
It will provide full technical and compliance support.
The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has classified Lila Jamnagar, a 298,997 DWT Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), making it one of the largest vessels under the Indian flag.
Owned by RFK Shipping IFSC Private Limited and operated through Lila Global, the vessel is registered at GIFT City. IRS will provide full technical and compliance support, ensuring safety, structural integrity, and performance meet international standards.
"India’s aspiration to expand its merchant fleet and strengthen energy transportation capabilities requires robust technical oversight and globally recognised standards,” said P K Mishra, managing director of IRS. “The classification of Lila Jamnagar demonstrates IRS’s ability to support large tanker operations whilst contributing to the growth of India’s maritime ecosystem.”
Lila Jamnagar is also the first Indian-flagged VLCC structured via GIFT City, highlighting the hub’s growing role in maritime asset ownership and investment.
