ABS, Fleetzero MOU targets energy gaps in containerised marine battery systems

It will focus on design, testing, and quality control procedures for safe deployment.

ABS and Fleetzero have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore containerised marine battery systems, focusing on design, testing, and safety standards.

ABS provides guidance to support the adoption of marine battery systems, highlighting the need to overcome key deployment barriers such as energy density limitations and safety challenges, according to Michael Kei, ABS Vice President of Technology.

He said the partnership with Fleetzero aims to explore new approaches with safety as a guiding principle whilst advancing energy-efficient technologies for the maritime industry.

Steven Henderson, CEO and co-founder of Fleetzero, also noted that the collaboration will focus on innovative containerised battery solutions that offer higher energy density and improved safety standards.

The collaboration builds on ABS’s efforts in hybrid and electric ship technologies. Its Global Electrification Center in Singapore supports electrification projects worldwide.
