Damen Shipyards and Square Port ink deal to build vessels in India

This is the shipbuilding company’s third partnership in the country.

Damen Technical Cooperation B.V. and Square Port Shipyard have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a shipyard in India focused on building Damen vessels.

In a statement, Damen said this is its third partnership in the Indian subcontinent.

“The availability of good infrastructure and economic labour costs will further strengthen our competitive edge in the global market,” said Dingeman van Woerden, regional sales director in Asia for Damen.

Fattesingh Patil, director of Square Port Shipyards, meanwhile, said “access to the latest ship building technology and processes will give us a competitive advantage and address the issue of capacity constraints plaguing the Indian ship building and repair industry.”
