Global shipping container trade up 4.7% in December to February
Asia was the main driver of growth.
Global shipping container trade volume has increased 4.7% from December to February, according to Maersk Strategic Insights.
In its latest report, Maersk said Asian remained the core driver of growth in the first quarter, thanks to strong export activities. This also drove import growth in Latin America, Europe and North America.
Maersk also reported a slowdown in the market after the Spring Festival and the gradual consumption of inventory. This led to Asia's imports falling by 7.4% year-on-year.
“Despite the seasonal decline in March and the more complicated overall environment, exports from Asia to the United States and Europe remained stable,” it added.
