Imabari delivers 200,000-ton LNG-fueled vessel

It will transport raw materials for JFE Steel.

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has delivered a liquified natural gas (LNG)-fueled capsize bulker, named Verde Heraldo, to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL).

In a statement, MOL said the vessel has a deadweight tonnage of 210,321 tonnes, breadth of 50.00 metres, and a draft of 18.436 metres.

The vessel was ordered for JFE Steel and will sail under long-term transport contracts to supply raw materials for the latter’s mills

After departing from Saijo Shipyard, fuel will be supplied directly to the vessel through shore-to-ship bunkering at the Senboku Terminal (Osaka Prefecture) of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., and is then scheduled to sail for Australia.

The MOL Group aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and will further expand the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels.
