Maritime groups release updated security best practices
It details a process for managing threats and risks, amongst others.
Various maritime groups have released a consolidated and enhanced Best Management Practices (BMP) for Maritime Security (MS).
The groups include Baltic International Maritime Council, International Chamber of Shipping, International Marine Contractors Association, International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, International Association of Independent Tanker Owners, and Oil Companies International Marine Forum.
BMP Maritime Security is an interactive online publication that consolidates previously published regional publications. It focuses on providing a threat and risk management process, and includes various diagrams that provide learning opportunities.
There is also a section detailing global authorities and appropriate contacts and tools for seafarer welfare support.
“BMP MS will reduce risks and save lives. Whilst we cannot control how the threats will develop in 2025 and beyond, we can make sure that we have the best tools available to help protect our seafarers and world trade,” said David Loosley, secretary general and CEO at BIMCO.
