MOL completes Japan’s first coastal deck carrier for offshore wind
Vessel transports monopiles and wind turbine components.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), MOL Drybulk, and MOL Coastal Shipping have completed the Wind Whale, Japan’s first coastal deck carrier built to transport offshore wind turbine foundation components.
The vessel will transport monopiles and other offshore wind components from JFE Engineering Corporation’s manufacturing base in Kasaoka, Okayama Prefecture to offshore wind project sites across Japan.
Designed with a flat deck, an advanced Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), and enhanced weather resistance, the Wind Whale is capable of carrying large offshore wind components, including monopiles, towers, blades, nacelles, and floating foundations.
The vessel is also designed to enable direct cargo transfers to wind turbine installation vessels at offshore construction sites, supporting more efficient offshore wind project logistics.
