There will be two SOVs to be built.
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has conducted a steel-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of construction of a hybrid service operation vessel (SOV).
In a statement, CSL said the 68-metre VARD 4 07 SOV was designed by VARD AS, Norway. It will be powered by 3 Nos. diesel main generating sets from Yanmar and high-capacity Li ion batteries.
This is the first of the two vessels being constructed for M/s. North Star Shipping (Aberdeen) Limited, UK.
Once commissioned, the vessel will be deployed in the offshore wind sector. It will be able to transport a total 54 crew members in charge of wind turbine maintenance and operate as a warehouse and logistics centre.
