Seatrium and Karpowership launch LNGTS Americas
This can be paired with powerships to deliver energy to areas with limited access.
Seatrium and Karpowership have conducted a naming ceremony for Karadeniz LNGTS Americas, expanding the latter’s fleet of LNG Terminal Ships (LNGTS).
According to Karpowership, the newest vessel is the fifth in its LNGTS fleet.
LNGTS units can be paired with powerships (LNG-to-Power) to deliver electricity in regions where onshore infrastructure is limited and access to natural gas is absent.
Karpowership has 50 powerships with an installed capacity of 10,000 megawatts and 11 LNGTS units, including those under construction or in the pipeline. The company represents 1% of global installed gas-to-power capacity and aims to double that to 2% in the next 10 years.
The companies also signed a letter of intent to expand Karpowership’s floating power capabilities.
Seatrium will begin converting three high-capacity LNGTS and Karpowership's next generation of powerships, which are designed as a modular system adaptable to project needs. The new design will allow for the integration of advanced technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation, and storage systems or turbines when required.
