Uttar Pradesh completes over INR 250 crore worth of water logistics projects
There are still facilities being built worth over INR 600 crore.
India has announced the completion of various projects in Uttar Pradesh under Inland Water Transport (IWT) valued at over INR 250 crore.
According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the completed projects include the development of a multimodal terminal at Varanasi, 11 community jetties in Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur and Ballia, two electric catamarans deployed at Varanasi and Ayodhya, and a hydrogen fuel cell vessel at Varanasi.
A number of projects are still being completed, which are worth over INR 600 crore. These include a river cruise terminal at Varanasi, a ship repair facility, IWT jetties at Mathura in the Yamuna, and fairway development from Ghazipur to Varanasi.
“The major challenge faced in Inland Water Transport relates to the availability of fairway and terminal infrastructure, which has been addressed by the Government through dredging/bandalling and construction of jetties,” the ministry said.
Authorities have also acquired 75 acres of land in Chandauli district for the development of a logistics hub adjacent to the Varanasi multi-modal terminal.
