Kvaerner Delivering Its Third High-speed Catamaran to Hong Kong Ferry (holdings) Co Ltd
Kvaerner Fjellstrand (S) Pte Ltd, a member of Norway's Kvaerner Group, delivered the MV HKF III to Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Co Ltd.
Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Co Ltd, has a fleet of more than 90 various types of vessels and is one of the world's largest operators of high-speed vessels. The HKF III is their third high speed catamaran from Kvaerner.
MV HKF III, a 40m Flying Cat M2 design built by Kvaerner Fjellstrand, Singapore, ac- cording to special requirements from Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Co Ltd.
The vessel has a total seating capacity of 433 passengers in comfortable sitting accommodation, providing a premier high speed ferry service. HKF III is deployed together with its two sister-vessels HKF I and HKF II for ferry services between Kowloon and Tuen Mun, and from Hong Kong to Macau.
The vessel was built to comply with the new IMO, HSC Regulations, as stipulated in the Minutes of Meeting from the 37 session of IMO held in March 1994, which will be fully implemented during 1996.
Powered by two MTU 16V diesel engines and waterjets, the new catamaran is capable of achieving a speed of 38 knots.
Classed by Det Norske Veritas, HKF III is equipped with Motion Dampening System to provide improved seakeeping capabilities, the active Motion Dampening System will ensure a higher average operational speed with an improved comfort level, and less down time in rough seas.
Kvaerner Fjellstrand, Singapore, is one of the most modern shipyards in the world, with about 200 employees.
