Promet Completes S$8 Million Rig Life Enhancement Project Ahead of Schedule

 

Promet Pte Ltd (PPL), a leading steel fabrication and marine contracting specialist, has just completed an S$8 million rig Life Enhancement Project a week ahead of schedule.

Promet, which is internationally recognised as one of a handful of oil rig designer- builders in the world, won the contract on its ability to complete the project within 90 days.

The works on the Sedco 703 was carried out at PPL's yard at Pandan Road on the west coast of Singapore. The Sedco 703 is a semi-submersible rig belonging to Schlumberger Sedco Forex, a major oil exploration and drilling concern based in France.

The Life Enhancement Project for the Sedco 703, a 7,735 GRT (Gross Tonnage) American Bureau of Shipping-certified and registered vessel, included: 
* Structural inspections and repairs - this entailed a thorough assessment of the soundness and integrity of the vessel's hull; 
* Upgrading of living quarters - the structure and facilities of the living quarters were upgraded to comply with Mobile Offshore drilling Unit (MODU) standard 79 and 89 requirements. These were set by the international marine industry; 
* Modification and upgrading of the upgrading of the airconditioning system for the whole vessel; 
* assessment, upgrading and testing of all safety features for the vessel - this includes detection systems for fire, gas and carbon dioxide; 
* The installation of a third mud pump to increase the workload of the vessel and complete upgrading of the high pressure piping system;

In addition, PPL undertook a Type 4 inspection of the vessel, which covers the inspection of critical structural hull and substructure connections, and involves, among other things, the replacement of all underwater cathodic protection.

PPL also undertook the blasting and painting of the entire vessel, including its columns. The Life Enhancement Project was carried out with the vessel afloat.

The Sedco 703 is scheduled to leave for its next assignment in Vietnam at the end of the week, on completion of the inclined experiment to test its stability.

All these works have brought the vessel up to the mark in terms of stringent International Maritime Organisation and Vietnamese government safety requirements.
