SHIP FUMIGATION

Hydrogen Cyanide gas fumigation is used for ships  requiring the International Deratisation Certificates.
Where cargoes are present in the hatches then  Methyl Bromide gas may be used.
The following Government Departments are to  be notified in writing, where possible 24 hours,  before commencing a ship fumigation:  The Director of Medical Services  The senior Health Officer  The Port Master Chief Master  and Marine Police Officer  The following steps must be closely adhered to  before putting in the gas.
a) All crews must vacate the ship.
b) All fires and naked lights within the fumigation  area must be extinguished.
c) All liquids and food which are liable to absorb  the dangerous gas be removed.
d) All windows, doors and other openings must be  sealed, but all cabin doors, cabinets and drawers  must be opened..
e) Printed warning notice must be displayed from  the time of commencing the fumigation until  the ship is declared safe for re-occupation.

CONTAINERS/CARGOES/COMMODITIES/RUBBER  PALLETS, etc.

Methyl Bromide gas is used when carrying out  the above fumigation. Fumigation certificates in a set of 5 copies are issued by Flick after the process.
