3 major suppliers tapped to launch methanol bunkering in 2026
Global Energy, Golden Island, PetroChina secured five-year supply permits.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has awarded three licences to supply methanol as marine fuel, selected from a pool of 13 applicants.
Global Energy Trading, Golden Island, and PetroChina International (Singapore) will commence operations in the Port of Singapore from 1 January 2026. These awards follow a Call for Applications launched in March 2025 to establish methanol bunkering at scale, according to a press release.
The evaluation prioritised supply chain reliability, operational readiness, safety systems, and the sustainability certification of the methanol supply.
The licences are valid for a five-year period ending 31 December 2030, providing scope for the companies to anchor initial investments. This duration supports the development of supply chain capabilities as the port transitions toward a multi-fuel bunkering hub.
