Newfoundland LNG project advances with Hanwha Ocean partnership
Hanwha will provide engineering and planning.
Hanwha Ocean and Fermeuse Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly advance the Newfoundland and Labrador LNG development project in Canada.
The agreement makes Hanwha Ocean a long-term strategic partner across the project’s full value chain, including development, engineering, financing, shipbuilding and LNG logistics.
Hanwha said the partnership reflects its long-term industrial commitment to Canada, where it is also participating in the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP) and supporting the country’s Arctic and multi-ocean defense strategy.
Under the MOU, Hanwha Ocean will provide early-stage technical work such as conceptual studies and pre-front-end engineering design.
The companies will also establish joint governance and execution planning to support commercialisation and long-term operations.
Hanwha linked the LNG cooperation to its broader defense activities in Canada, including its CPSP submarine bid, which includes domestic sustainment, training and supply-chain development under the Industrial and Technological Benefits framework.
Hanwha operates globally in energy, shipbuilding, aerospace and defense and infrastructure. Fermeuse Energy is a Canadian LNG developer focused on exporting Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural gas while supporting regional economic growth.
