ABB wins two-vessel Orange Marine cable ship contract
Delivery is scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
ABB has won a contract from Colombo Dockyard PLC to supply integrated power, propulsion, and automation systems for two new cable repair vessels for Orange Marine.
The hybrid-electric ships are due for delivery in 2028 and 2029. It will maintain submarine cables in the Atlantic and Indian oceans, as well as the Mediterranean, Black, and Red seas.
ABB said its scope includes Azipod DO propulsion units, the ABB Ability 800xA Integrated Automation System, energy storage, power and energy management, generators, low-voltage switchboards, drives, thruster motors, and transformers.
The company said the gearless propulsion design would help cut maintenance needs and lower operating costs.
Didier Dillard, Orange Marine chief executive officer, said the integration of ABB’s propulsion, energy management, and automation systems would support complex subsea interventions and reduce fuel consumption and emissions across the fleet.
