APM Terminals takes 49% stake in Hai Phong Port

The terminal handles vessels up to 18,000 TEU.

APM Terminals has acquired a 49% stake in the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT), becoming a minority shareholder and operating partner with Hateco Group.

The move follows three years of joint development, bringing the terminal from construction to full operations. HHIT, located in Lach Huyen, is now the largest and most advanced deep-water port in northern Vietnam, with two berths capable of handling vessels up to 18,000 TEU.

The terminal enables direct trade between northern Vietnam and key markets in Europe and the United States. It has already achieved high berth productivity and set records in automated gate operations.

APM Terminals said the investment reflects its long-term commitment to Vietnam and focus on efficient, sustainable logistics. Hateco Group said the partnership will help further improve terminal operations.

The project includes the use of automation, artificial intelligence, and decarbonization initiatives. HHIT is also part of the Gemini Cooperation network operated by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
