India’s Deendayal Port to dismantles rail choke point with INR132-crore bridge
It forms part of the Sagarmala Programme.
India has approved the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at LC-235 at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla at an estimated cost of INR132.51 crore, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
In a press release, the ministry said the project aims to improve cargo movement and remove a rail crossing bottleneck at the port. It forms part of the Sagarmala Programme and aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
The ROB will address logistical constraints at the port by enabling movement across the rail crossing and will support cargo evacuation by reducing congestion and improving access for port-bound freight.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, approved the project, with Western Railway executing the construction on a deposit basis.
The proposal was recently appraised by the Delegated Investment Board, chaired by Sonowal, which reviewed the revised project cost to ensure compliance with safety standards and technical specifications.
The ministry has directed all major ports to map projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal to support coordination of multi-modal connectivity projects and infrastructure planning.
Once completed, the ROB will form part of efforts to improve rail and road interfaces at Deendayal Port.
