Rolls-Royce wins Korea Coast Guard patrol boath engine deal
The programme calls for more than 50 shipsets with initial deliveries due by 2027.
Rolls-Royce has been selected to supply mtu engines for two Korea Coast Guard (KCG) patrol boat programmes as the agency renews its fleet and expands its maritime capabilities.
The company said it will supply mtu 16V 2000 M96 engines for the KCG's new 50-tonne patrol boats and mtu 20V 4000 M93L engines for its 500-tonne patrol boats.
Under the 50-tonne programme, Rolls-Royce will deliver two shipsets, each comprising two mtu 16V 2000 M96 engines, by 2027.
The company said the new vessels will replace ageing ships and improve operational effectiveness. The programme is expected to require more than 50 shipsets over the next 15 years.
For the 500-tonne programme, Rolls-Royce will deliver two shipsets, each equipped with two mtu 20V 4000 M93L engines, by 2027.
The company said the vessels are designed to support operations against illegal vessels.
Both programmes remain in the design phase, with the first two ship construction orders scheduled for the second half of this year.
"We are honoured to support the Korea Coast Guard in its fleet strengthening efforts with our mtu Series 2000 and 4000 engines," said Michael Long, Vice President for Governmental Sales in Asia-Pacific at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
"These engines are engineered for reliability, efficiency, and performance, ensuring the Korea Coast Guard can respond swiftly and effectively to maritime challenges," Long added.
