Shanghai Port records 6.2% growth in H1 container throughput
Port handled 28.7m TEUs during the period.
Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (SIPG) expects the Port of Shanghai to have handled 28.737 million TEUs of container throughput and 304.78 million tonnes of cargo throughput in the first half of the year, up 6.2% and 2.7% year on year, respectively.
The growth came despite intensifying global port competition and ongoing external uncertainties, extending the port's steady growth trend in recent years.
The Port of Shanghai also set new operational records during the period.
On 9 June, it handled a record 187,312 TEUs in a single day, surpassing the previous high of 174,338 TEUs recorded on 30 October 2025.
It also processed a record 68,088 TEUs in a single shift, exceeding the previous record of 64,423 TEUs set on 4 November 2023.
