SIPG completes first large-scale green methanol bunkering for EUKOR vessel

Haigang Zhiyuan supplied 2,824 tonnes of locally produced green methanol to EUKOR’s Arctic Tern.

Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) has completed the first large-scale bunkering of Shanghai-produced green methanol for an international roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping operator.

On 16 July 2026, SIPG Energy’s methanol bunkering vessel, Haigang Zhiyuan, delivered 2,824 tonnes of locally produced green methanol to Arctic Tern, the first methanol dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) built for EUKOR Car Carriers, through a simultaneous ship-to-ship bunkering operation.

The operation was carried out under the Shanghai International Shipping Green Fuel Bunkering Center initiative, led by the Shanghai Municipal Transport Commission and coordinated by the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.

The project integrated green methanol production, storage and bunkering within Shanghai’s own supply chain. The fuel was produced locally, stored through the city’s logistics network and supplied by a Shanghai-based bunkering vessel.

SIPG said the integrated model strengthens Shanghai’s role as a global hub for green marine fuels and provides a scalable approach to supporting shipping decarbonisation.

The operation also highlights SIPG’s efforts to develop a coordinated green-fuel bunkering network as part of its broader transition towards lower-carbon port operations.
