500-passenger Marinteknik Catamaran Delivered to Discovery Bay
Having built seven 35-metre monohulls for Discovery Bay Transportation, Marinteknik Shipbuilders (Singapore) Pte Ltd, recently delivered a 42-metre catamaran, Discovery Bay 1, to this same client for their operating on the Discovery Bay -Central route in Hong Kong.
Not only is this ferry the first catamaran in a series of three, but also in discovery Bay's fleet of monohulls and surface effect ships.
Classed by Det Norske Veritas, Discovery Bay 1 is servicing at a speed of 33 knots by a pair of MWM TBD 620 V16 engines, each developing 1935kW and driving an MJP 650 waterjet via Reintjes VLJ 930 gearbox. This vessel is generated by MWM TD226-6 auxiliary engines at 68kW, 1500rpm coupled to Stamford alternators.
The 500 seating capacity has been arranged on two fully enclosed air-conditioned decks with 328 Eknes seats on the main deck and 172 Eknes seats on the upper deck.
For safer navigation, Discovery Bay 1 is equipped with a Moland alarm/monitoring control system, a JRC global positioning system and two Furuno high definition radars which will aid the crew at night and in poor visibility.
