Atlantis - First Local Shipyard Certified Under ISO 9002 1994 Revised Edition
Atlantis Shipyard Pte Ltd (Atlantis), jointly owned by Neptune Orient Lines Ltd (50%), Jurong Shipyard Ltd (35%) and Singapore shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd (15%), received the ISO 9002 certification.
With this certification by Det Norske Veritas, Atlantis is the first shipyard in Singapore certified under ISO 9002 1994 revised edition. The achievement marked a significant milestone for Atlantis to achieve quality excellence in its operational processes.
Mr Toh Ho Tay, Chairman of Atlantis said, "Our decision to pursue the ISO 9002 quality management standards as our standards for the management of Quality started some 2 years ago in March 1993.
"The decision was taken to be in line with the trend of worldwide acceptance of ISO 9002 as the quality standard in today's business world."
Atlantis, a medium- sized shipyard provide shiprepairing,shipbuilding as well as offshore and in industrial engineering projects.
The facilities in Atlantis include a 25,000- dwt floating dock, 155 metres long and 24 metres wide. Atlantis, has recently acquired a new floating dock measuring 110m x 22m with a lifting capacity up to 5000 tons to cater for the smaller vessels. The new dock will commence operations in March 1995.
In conjunction with the ISO 9002 certification, Atlantis also launched the company's fifteenth new building on the same day.
The 7,200 dwt oil tanker, named "Alpha Prosperity", was built for Factors Alpha Shipping Singapore Pte Ltd
In line with Atlantis consistent and continual policy to provide a total quality services to meet the needs of its clients, prior arrangements with the shareholders to provide further expertise so as to improve operational efficiency through sharing of resources, manpower, marketing, purchasing and engi- neering of the shipyard.
Currently, Atlantis has 7 new buildings on its order book and expects to obtain contracts for two new ship constructions for delivery next year.
