ClassNK approves NYK Line subsea cable-laying vessel

It will support long-distance subsea DC power transmission.

ClassNK has granted General Design Approval (GDA) to a subsea cable-laying vessel developed by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), confirming its compliance with relevant design rules.

The vessel is intended to support long-distance subsea DC power transmission, a critical solution for delivering electricity from offshore wind farms located far from major demand centers.

ClassNK reviewed the vessel’s design under Part O of its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships and other applicable standards before issuing the approval.

The society said it will continue promoting offshore wind power by supporting new technology, safety assessments, and practical implementation.
