Gas Detection Systems

There are situations when not only the remote detectors but also the control systems need to be installed in a hazardous area. Crowcon's flameproof systems are housed in Ex d flameproof cases so that they can be safely installed in Zones 1 or 2.

The Gasmaster FLP is an aluminium cased unit for up to four channels of gas or fire detection. Alternative cost iron enclosures are also available.

Offering the same facilities as a standard Gasmaster, the Gasmaster FLP can be connected to any of Crowcon's remote detectors whether for flammable gas, toxic gas or fire detection. Alarm relays for each channel are provided as well as common relays for low and high alarms and fault conditions. A comprehensive array of LEDs is clustered behind a single window in the hinged lid and gives a cyclic readout of the measured value of each channel together with its status.

Integral Zener barriers within the enclosure allow the direct connection of intrinsically safe fire detectors (3 channels maximum). Flameproof flammable gas detectors are directly connected.

Four external pushbuttons are used to control the cyclic readout (Hold and Run), test LEDs (Test) and reset the alarms (Reset).

The unit can be mounted horizontally or vertically, in which case the display module may be rotated through 90°.

Crowcon recognises that gas detection systems are not designed just to provide alarms but are required to control other equipment including ventilation systems, automatic doors, valves etc. Therefore each system has common low alarm, high alarm and fault relays and in addition, each channel has its own relays for low alarm and high alarm. All relays can be operated in normally energised 'fail safe' mode or in normally deenergised mode and are double pole changeover with contacts rated 5A at 250V, noninductive mode.

An output to drive one or two YL4 Yodalight and audible/visual alarms is also provided which does not use any of the relay contacts. Accepting an alarm signal cancels the audible sounder but the flashing beacon continues until the system is reset. A module is also available to operate the 87ESU Environmental Sampling Unit.

For interfacing Gasmaster with computers, recorders, data loggers etc, outputs are provided to give 1 to 5V or 4-20mA for each channel (user adjustable)

Gasmaster systems are designed for reliable long life and once installed, the only maintenance necessary will be calibration checking of the detectors.

Power supply requirements are 240 or 110V AC or 12 or 24V DC (user adjustable) and there is a built-in 12V sealed lead acid standby battery.

An external lead acid battery of up to 6AH can be connected for longer standby duration and an auxiliary power unit with 15Ah battery and charger is available.

In addition to the range of portable detectors, Crowcon manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of gas and fire detection and gas sampling systems.

GASMONITOR
Gasmonitor is a 19" rack mounting control panel housing up to 16 input modules. Each gas detection module can be used with any Crowcon gas detector, and each twin zone fir module can be used with up to 20 fire detectors per zone.

The system is microprocessor controlled, giving the user total flexibility in configuration, alarm setup and relay operation. The design also incorporates features that allow the operator to perform one man calibration at the detector, automatic data logging, three levels of alarm as standard, voted outputs, and RS232 communications.

GASMASTER
Designed to be inexpensive and simple to installed and operate, Gasmaster can be used with any combination of Crowcon flammable and toxic gas detectors.

The front panel features easy to read indications of power and gas concentration, and individual LEDs are provided for two levels of alarm and fault for each channel. Common relays are included for high alarm, low alarm and fault as well as individual relays for high and low alarm. In addition, other outputs are provided for up to two YL4 Yodalights and individual analogue outputs.

The slimline case is water and dust resistant to IP54 (NEMA 4) and an optional IP66 (NEMA 4X) external case is also available. A flameproof (Ex d) version of Gasmaster is also offered.

DITECH
Ditech is a modular fire and gas detection system intended primarily for major petrochemical and offshore projects. Designed in a 19" format, the system comprises a number of input and output cards which can be configured to suit a particular application.

Gas detectors can only be reliably tested by exposing them to gas. For this reason Crowcon offers a comprehensive package of service and repair facilities. These include routine service contracts and rapid response equipment returned for repair. For maintenance contracts covering large quantities of portable detectors, Crowcon can carry out the work on the customer's site. Outside the UK, Crowcon's subsidiary companies and distributors offer similar facilities.
