Hanwha Ocean delivers 200th LNG carrier
It is the first shipbuilding company to achieve this.
Hanwha Ocean has hit its 200th liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier milestone, becoming the world’s first shipbuilder to reach this.
According to the company, the vessel Lebrethah was delivered to SK Shipping. The ship utilises a low-pressure dual-fuel propulsion engine (ME-GA), a reliquefaction system, and Hanwha Ocean’s smart ship solution, HS4, to reduce emissions of air pollutants.
As of February 2025, Hanwha Ocean said it accounts for 23.4% of the global LNG carrier market share.
Hanwha Ocean has also optimised its production efficiency by establishing an infrastructure capable of simultaneously constructing four vessels in a single dock. This allows it to achieve an annual maximum production capacity of 25 LNG carriers.
Citing data from Clarksons Securities, a global shipbuilding and maritime investment firm, Hanwha Ocean said new LNG carrier orders could reach up to 126 vessels by 2029, representing a market value of approximately $35b.
“As LNG plays an increasingly vital role in the global energy market, we are confident that Hanwha Ocean, backed by our technological prowess, is the ideal shipyard to meet the evolving demands of global shipowners,” said Jong Seo Kim, COO and head of the commercial vessel business at Hanwha Ocean.
