Hanwha Ocean secures WTIV order for offshore wind
The vessel is currently under review for deployment in priority domestic offshore wind projects
Hanwha Ocean has secured a KRW768.7b order to build a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) for Ocean Wind Power 1.
The WTIV is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2028, the company said.
The vessel is currently under review for deployment in priority domestic offshore wind projects, including the Shinan Ui offshore wind project in Jeollanam-do, with detailed operating plans being developed.
Once completed, the vessel will be Korea’s first WTIV capable of installing 15MW-class large-scale offshore wind turbines and is expected to be the largest WTIV operating in the domestic offshore wind market.
The capability is seen as a key enabler for the next phase of offshore wind development in South Korea, where turbine sizes continue to increase.
Hanwha Ocean said it aims to support the full-scale growth of the domestic offshore wind industry by leveraging its competitiveness in large, high-value specialised vessels, including WTIVs designed for next-generation turbines.
