Imabari Shipbuilding delivers 13,932 TEU ONE Serenity

The vessel's carbon dioxide emission rate is 60% below standard.

Imabari Shipbuilding has completed and delivered the 13,900 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containership built in Marugame Headquarters.

In a statement, the company said ONE Serenity is a container-only vessel with a container loading capacity equivalent to 13,932 TEU, and has up to four lashing bridges on the deck. In addition to loading a large number of frozen containers on hold and decks, it also supports loading of various hazardous materials subject to the code of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Transport Regulations.

The vessel has a length of 335.94 metres (m) and a width of 51.00 m. It has a gross tonnage of 140,233 and has a speed of 22 knots.

“Based on the latest analysis technology, we have developed an optimal ship type that pursues high efficiency in line with high-frequency speed and drafting, whilst also adopting energy-saving devices, twist rudder, and hull outer paint that reduces friction with seawater,” Imabari said.

“As a result, the reduction rate of EEDI (the amount of carbon dioxide emitted from ships when carrying 1 ton of cargo per nautical mile) from the regular standard value of the vessel is approximately 60%, which greatly exceeds the latest requirements,” it added.

Imabari said it is working to improve performance in real waters by adopting Bow Wind Cover. In addition, in order to comply with sulfur oxide emission regulations and nitrogen oxide emission regulations, hybrid exhaust gas purification equipment and exhaust gas recirculation system are installed.

Other environmental protection measures include ballast water treatment equipment and inventory lists based on the Ship Recycling Convention. Imabari has acquired approval in principle from the Class Association of Classes for Fuel conversion to methanol and ammonia and equipment for CO2 recovery equipment in the future.
