JMU and NYK sign tanker deal with guaranteed sea performance
The tanker will be delivered in March 2026.
Japan Marine United Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kaisha have signed a contract for the construction of a next-generation crude oil tanker, set for delivery in March 2026.
The contract introduces a newly developed evaluation method that estimates a vessel’s propulsion performance under actual sea conditions before construction.
The initiative, in which JMU and NYK have collaborated since September 2020, establishes a technical and objective framework to assess “actual sea performance.”
The contract includes a guaranteed performance clause to ensure the tanker achieves expected propulsion efficiency in real-world operations.
By optimising fuel efficiency in actual sea conditions, the project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote sustainable shipping practices.
