Maersk launches new wind installation vessel
The ship was launched at Seatrium’s Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore.
Maersk Offshore Wind has launched a new vessel catering to turbine installations.
According to the company, Maersk Wind Installation Vessel (WIV) was launched to sea at Seatrium's flagship Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore.
“The dock was flooded, and the mighty Maersk WIV was towed out to the quayside, ready for the crane installation,” Maersk said.
WIV has an overall length of 145 metres.
It aims to make the installation of bottom-fixed offshore wind turbines up to 30% faster than the conventional jack-up method. This will remain on-site for assembly, whilst tugs and barges shuttle back and forth with the turbine components.
Maersk said the launch of WIV also marks the 15 million work hours with ZERO Lost Time Injuries at the Seatrium yard.
WIV will sail under the Danish flag.
