MPA, China Classification Society renew maritime pact
The expanded partnership covers green fuels, vessel electrification, autonomous ships and maritime talent development.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and China Classification Society have renewed an agreement to expand cooperation on maritime decarbonization, digitalization and talent development.
The memorandum of understanding was renewed during the Sixth North Bund International Shipping Forum in Shanghai.
It builds on a partnership established in 2023, under which the organizations worked with Singapore research and industry partners on the use of B100 biofuel for harbor craft and the evaluation, testing and verification of smart ships.
Under the renewed agreement, MPA and China Classification Society will expand research and development involving green-fuel supply chains, marine electrification and energy-efficiency technologies for vessels.
They will also deepen cooperation on digital and smart-ship technologies, including digital testing and risk assessment for autonomous vessels.
MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong said the renewed partnership would support the development of maritime decarbonization and digitalization solutions while building the workforce needed by the industry.
China Classification Society Chairman and President Zhao Yan said the organization was strengthening its presence in Singapore.
It aims to develop Singapore into its most comprehensive overseas maritime technology center and a one-stop integrated service platform.
The two organizations will also support maritime talent development through the MPA Global Internship Awards, MaritimeONE Scholarship Program, internships and industry attachments.
These programs will provide students and aspiring maritime professionals with exposure to international maritime companies and industry practices.
