Seatrium hits first gas injection milestone for Petrobras FPSO vessel in Brazil

The vessel begins gas production 61 days post-oil.

Seatrium Limited achieved First Gas Injection for the PETROBRAS 78 (P-78) floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel on 2 March, 61 days after the vessel reached First Oil on 31 December 2025.

The milestone signals the transition of the P-78 from execution into full operational readiness, according to a press release.

Deployed at the Búzios field in Brazil’s Santos Basin, the P-78 is permanently moored at around 2,100 metres and can produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil and 7.2 million cubic metres of gas per day, with storage for two million barrels of crude oil.

Seatrium delivered the full project scope—including topsides fabrication, integration, and offshore commissioning—across facilities in Singapore, Brazil, China, and South Korea.

The Group applied its One Seatrium Global Delivery Model to coordinate resources and accelerate execution.

Marlin Khiew, Executive Vice President of Seatrium Energy (Projects) and President, LATAM, said the milestone highlights the Group’s engineering capabilities, global execution discipline, and expertise in complex offshore projects.

He added that it reinforces Seatrium’s role as Petrobras’ key EPCC partner in Brazil’s pre-salt basin.

Seatrium collaborated with Petrobras and a global vendor network to ensure readiness of critical systems, including main process, export, and gas injection compressors, whilst maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards across all facilities.

The P-78 is the first of six P-Series FPSO projects Seatrium is building. The programme, which includes P-80, P-82, P-83, P-84, and P-85, is expected to add 1.305 million barrels of oil per day of production capacity for Brazil and create over 60,000 local jobs.

Seatrium has carried out a significant portion of the work in Brazilian yards to support workforce development and skills training.

The company is now focusing on the next milestone: completing the delivery phase and Final Acceptance of the vessel by Petrobras.
