Singapore continues WMU student field studies under renewed pact

Over 400 students have joined field studies.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will continue hosting World Maritime University (WMU) students on annual field studies to Singapore under a new memorandum of understanding (MoU).

MPA will also help raise awareness of WMU’s professional development courses on shipping and port-related topics amongst maritime professionals in Singapore.

The parties began working together in 2004, when MPA started hosting WMU students on annual field studies to Singapore.

Over 400 students from 70 countries have visited Singapore under the arrangement.

The MoU will also support specialised training programmes, faculty and expertise exchanges, as well as knowledge-sharing opportunities for members of both organisations.

The agreement was signed by MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong and WMU President Maximo Mejia, Jr. on the sidelines of the 137th session of the International Maritime Organization Council in London.

The agreement builds on previous MoUs signed in 2015 and 2019.
