Teamtec/Golar Safety Windows for Efficient Protection

The Golar Safety Window is a multi purpose window which meets today's safety requirements for ships, platforms and living quarters.

Golar windows give efficient protection against fire, pressure, explosion, solar heat and noise and meet IMO res. A517 (ESIV) and USCG and carries type approvals from major classification authorities.

The window allows for easy upgrading of the protection level. The construction is based on an outer steel frame for welding to the bulkhead. The steel frame is fitted with a sealed glass element.

The glass element is pressed to the steel frame by means of a specially designed bolt arrangement which allows the glass elements to be changed from inside. Between the outer steel frame with the glass element and the inner wall lining is a telescopic attachment delivered. The attachment is made of extruded aluminium profiles and it is bolted to the outer steel frame via insulation bricks.

The telescopic attachment allows large variations in total wall thickness. When required, roller blind can easily be equipped.

SCOPE OF SUPPLY 
The supply comprises A-60 and H-120 fire rated windows complete with all fixings with option of window blind. Each window is delivered in 2 separate parts-the outer steel frame with glass element for welding into structure, the inner telescopic frame having the optional window blind.

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS 
The window is designed as a multi purpose window for welding into the structure. The design allows a great variation of glass combinations to be fitted to meet varying requirements of fire ratings and pressure ratings. The design further allows great variation of wall thicknesses due to its telescopic inner frame.

The external window unit is weather and water tight and the construction is designed to withstand static water pressure.

The complete window maintains an A-60 or H-120 fire classification as the external wall where it will be installed.

The pressure part of the glass element will withstand explosive pressure. The pressure value depends on the size.

The window blind is of fire retardant material and is impenetrable by light.

Both A-60 and H-120 have been tested at the Norwegian fire research Laboratory.

MATERIALS 
The outer steel frame is made in angle bar grade NVA and fitted with bolt attachments for the clamping system of the glass element.

The internal frame is a telescopic design made in extruded sea-water resistant aluminium. The frame construction is coated with baked epoxy paint.

The glass element is a hermetic sealed unit consisting of a pressure proof glass and a fire proof glass separated by an 8m space having an air dryer.

The gaskets are of solid neoprene type having a hardness of 60° Shore A.

Glazing compound is of best quality weather resistant silicone mastic or equal maintaining its adhesive to both glass and metal.

The insulating blocks separating the aluminium frame from the steel are of type Promatect H.

The window blind is of a fire retardant type which is fixed to a pulley wheel fitted in a housing. A flexible steel shaft is led through the front of the inner frame to a control box having a strong nylon cord for operation of the window blind.

FABRICATION 
The fabrication is carefully monitored throughout the production. Particular attention is paid to the dimensional tolerance, straight edges, true angles, even curve, gaskets and to accurate application of glazing compounds and sealings.

For this product QA/QV manual applies. The manual corresponds to ISO 9002.

INSTALLATION 
The external frame and glass element are mostly delivered separately. The glass element is delivered with plywood plates on each side for protection during handling, fitting, blasting and painting.

The opening in the external bulkhead plate must be accurately and carefully located in order to match the window frame.

After fitting the window frame and after the final painting of the external bulkhead, the plywood plates can be removed.

The outer part of the telescopic frame is bolted to the steel frame through the insulating bricks. The inner part of the frame also having the optional window blind is then fitted and fastened either to the internal wall or to the other aluminium frame. Special Installation Procedure has been made to secure a 100% result.
