Westwell signs agreement to deploy electric trucks at Westports terminal
The deployment includes battery swap infrastructure.
Westwell said it has signed a project cooperation agreement with Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd to deploy electric container tractors and supporting battery swap infrastructure at Westports terminal, according to a press release.
The agreement covers the deployment of 60 E-Truck electric heavy-duty trucks alongside PowerOnair battery swap stations and CSS charging management systems, according to the company.
Westports operates a container terminal at Port Klang along the Straits of Malacca and is expanding annual container handling capacity from 14 million to 27 million TEUs per annum, Westwell said.
The E-Truck uses electric propulsion with a 282kWh battery and an operating range of 150 kilometres, enabling terminal operations without tailpipe emissions.
Westwell said the PowerOnair system enables automated battery swapping in about five minutes and is designed to support continuous terminal operations.
