Singapore, MSC ink MoU to boost shipping connectivity, innovation
The partnership focuses on operational efficiency gains across vessel arrivals and port systems.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation, innovation, and workforce development.
The agreement will explore new shipping routes and services to strengthen connectivity, support the adoption of alternative marine fuels including bio-liquefied natural gas, and advance technologies aimed at improving vessel energy efficiency and operational performance.
Both MPA and MSC will also work on maritime digitalisation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, including measures to streamline vessel arrivals and port operations.
On workforce development, MSC will support internship and scholarship opportunities through the Singapore Maritime Foundation’s MaritimeONE platform, which brings together industry, government, and institutes of higher learning to promote careers in the maritime sector.
The agreement is also intended to support MSC’s operational and business activities in Singapore, as the company marks 30 years since establishing its Asia regional office and local office in the city-state.
Søren Toft, CEO of MSC, said Singapore is a strategically important hub for MSC and a key gateway to the broader Asia region.
Toft added that the agreement reflected the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Singapore and supporting the maritime industry’s growth and resilience.
