Seatrium completes seven LNG carrier conversions into regasification units

Programme began in 2018 and involved LNG carrier conversions at Admiralty Yard.

Seatrium Limited and Türkiye-based Karpowership have celebrated the naming and sailaway of LNGT Türkiye on 23 September, the seventh Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) delivered under an eight-year conversion programme.

The programme commenced in 2018, with Seatrium converting seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers into FSRUs at its Admiralty Yard.

LNGT Türkiye joins the six FSRUs previously delivered under the programme: LNGT Africa, LNGT Asia, LNGT Europe, LNGT Antarctica, LNGT Americas, and LNGT Oceania.

“The seven FSRUs will operate alongside [Karpowership's] global Powership fleet, supplying clean, reliable feed gas to floating power plants, strengthening energy security and flexible grid access across four continents,” Seatrium said.

It added that the LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversion programme involved cryogenic, marine, and gas-handling systems integration works.

The vessel's completion builds on the partnership between the two companies, which signed a letter of intent (LOI) in 2025 covering the conversion of three LNG carriers into FSRUs.

Seatrium said one of the proposed conversions has since resulted in a contract for the LNGT Karadeniz conversion project, which is currently underway under Karpowership's Kinetics initiative.

The LOI also includes the potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.

To date, Seatrium has delivered 22 FSRU, floating liquefied natural gas, and floating storage unit conversion projects globally.
