SLNG starts construction of third LNG bunkering jetty
Facility will support two MTPA of LNG bunker reload demand when completed in H2 2028.
Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) has begun construction of its third jetty at its terminal on Jurong Island, Singapore, to support growing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.
SLNG broke ground on 9 October attended by SLNG Chairman Gan Seow Kee, CEO Leong Wei Hung, and Rotary Engineering Chairman Roger Chia.
The jetty, scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028, will support approximately 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG bunker reload demand and accommodate break-bulk and other small-scale LNG operations.
It will handle LNG carriers ranging from 5,800 cubic metres to 80,000 cubic metres, making it SLNG’s first jetty dedicated to small- and mid-scale vessels.
With the new jetty and its existing infrastructure, SLNG could potentially support up to three MTPA of LNG bunker reloads, depending on market demand.
Separately, the SLNG Terminal has received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU (ISCC EU) certification for Bio-LNG handling.
The certification covers storage, regasification and send-out, bunkering and trucking services. It verifies that Bio-LNG handled through these services can be traced and accounted for under the ISCC EU framework.
SLNG is also working with partners to implement best practices in Bio-LNG certification and accounting across the upstream-to-terminal value chain to strengthen end-user confidence and support market adoption.
“As demand for LNG bunkering continues to grow, Jetty 3 will strengthen Singapore’s ability to support the next phase of growth and reinforce its position as a leading global bunkering and LNG trading hub,” Leong said.
He said the jetty would also expand the terminal’s capacity and operational flexibility to meet the maritime sector’s evolving energy needs.
