ABS issues PDA certificate to Samsung Heavy for SCBM system
This technology supports state awareness and maintenance for a vessel’s machinery operation.
ABS has issued a product design assessment certificate to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its condition-based maintenance system SCBM.
According to ABS, the system has earned a SMART (MHM) Tier 2 PDA from ABS, signifying that it meets the functional and system requirements listed in the ABS Guide for Smart Functions for Marine Vessels and Offshore Units.
SCBM is a smart ship solution that provides anomaly detection and machinery diagnostics to support health state awareness and condition-based maintenance for a vessel’s machinery operation based on real-time data analysis and AI analysis.
“This PDA is the latest achievement in a larger joint development project with SHI to support enhanced machinery health and safety through smart ship technologies,” said Patrick Ryan, senior vice president and chief technology officer at ABS.
Dong Yeon Lee, executive vice president, Ship & Offshore Research Institute at SHI, said the PDA acquisition will help “provide the enhanced machinery health monitoring and diagnosis based on real-time data analysis and AI analysis for a vessel’s machinery in terms of safer operation and management.”
“SHI looks forward to providing the most beneficial solution to reduce operational costs to our clients,” he added.
