Hanwha Ocean, POSCO ink MoU to develop next-gen steel for warships

The ultra-high-strength rolled steel plate has four times the strength of conventional steel.

Hanwha Ocean and POSCO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-develop ultra-high-strength steel for next-generation naval vessels.

According to a LinkedIn post, the ultra-high-strength rolled steel plate has four times the strength of conventional steel.

For surface ships, reducing the weight of the superstructure and increasing ballistic protection are essential for safety. This new steel will help make vessels lighter whilst improving their strength, protection, welding, and crew survivability.
