Strategic Marine breaks into superyacht sector with 42-metre vessel
The new build features a 140-square-metre deck capacity for extended offshore missions.
Strategic Marine is moving into the luxury yachting market with a new 42-metre yacht support vessel, marking its entry into the segment, according to a press release.
The move is in collaboration with MAG Subsea Pte Ltd and Southerly Designs Pty Ltd to develop a purpose-built “shadow boat” or chase vessel, with the design based on Strategic Marine’s Gen 4 42-metre platform, optimised for fuel efficiency and adaptable operations.
It features over 140 square metres of deck space, crane and lift capabilities, and can be configured with hybrid propulsion and gyro stabilisation systems, reflecting demand for more efficient and stable support craft.
These support yachts operate alongside superyachts as mobile logistics hubs, carrying equipment such as helicopters, submarines, water toys, and additional crew, whilst extending the range and operational capability of the main yacht.
The launch comes amidst strong growth in the superyacht sector, with the global market projected to reach $50.86b by 2033, driven by rising numbers of high-net-worth individuals and sustained demand for large leisure vessels.
The 40- to 80-metre segment, which includes most yacht support vessels, is expected to account for more than 47% of the market in 2026. Brokerage activity is also rising, with superyacht sales up around 20% in 2025.
The design reflects shifting buyer preferences, as younger wealthy owners increasingly prioritise experiences, exploration, and sustainability over traditional luxury signalling, driving demand for more versatile and operationally capable vessels.
Strategic Marine provides aluminium vessel engineering and construction, Southerly Designs contributes naval architecture and exterior design, and MAG Subsea integrates operational and maritime systems based on regional deployment experience.
The result is a multi-role support platform for expedition yachting and high-end leisure operations, with flexibility for custom configurations depending on owner requirements, including potential emergency response capability.
