South Korea’s Ulsan Port supplies 800 tonnes of green ammonia to VLAC
Terra Clove received the fuel through a shore-based pipe-to-ship system.
The Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) in South Korea supplied about 800 tonnes of green ammonia to Terra Clove, the world’s first ocean-going ammonia dual-fuel very large ammonia carrier (VLAC), in a commercial bunkering operation.
Terra Clove is a newly launched 93,000-cubic-metre VLAC from Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
The operation took place on 25-26 October at Pier 2 of Ulsan Main Port.
The green ammonia was supplied via a pipe-to-ship (PTS) bunkering method, with the fuel transferred directly from Ulsan Port’s shore-based facilities to the vessel through a pipeline.
The operation was carried out through a public-private partnership involving EPS, HD HHI, and LOTTE Fine Chemical, which supplied the fuel.
The bunkering builds on previous ammonia bunkering operations, including trials, undertaken by UPA to develop the infrastructure and operational framework needed to support commercial ammonia bunkering services at the port.
In April 2026, UPA conducted its first green ammonia bunkering operation, supplying approximately 600 tonnes of fuel to a 45K-class gas tanker via the PTS method.
