Hanwha Ocean to automate shipbuilding operations by 2030

The robotics system is under development for welding and cable installation.

Hanwha Ocean plans to automate its shipbuilding process by 2030, aiming for 100% automation in panel block welding and internal cargo hold structures.

Expansion plans also cover surface pretreatment, painting, and cable laying, the shipbuilder said on LinkedIn.

An intelligent robotics system capable of adaptive welding, automated surface assessment, and collaborative cable installation is under development.

These robots are currently being tested at the Geoje shipyard and are expected to be deployed at the Hanwha Philly Shipyard by late 2027.
