Bumi Armada named its largest FPSO- Olombendo FPSO
Bumi Armada Berhad, Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider, celebrated the naming ceremony of the Armada Olombendo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) in October.
Armada Olombendo FPSO represents Bumi Armada’s largest FPSO, and it will operate in Angola on Block 15/06, East Hub, a wide area of 2,984 square kilometres (km²) in the Angolan deep offshore, located approximately 350 km northwest of Luanda and 130 kilometres west of Soyo.
In 2014, Bumi Armada Berhad, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Bumi Armada Offshore Holdings Limited (“BAOHL”) and Angoil Bumi JV Lda (“ABJL”), entered into a contract with eni Angola S.p.A. (“eni Angola”) for the chartering, operations, and maintenance of the FPSO. The contract is for a firm charter of 12 years with options for 8 annual extensions.
“Armada Olombendo FPSO is one of Bumi Armada’s great achievements as this is the largest FPSO project undertaken by the company and incorporates both the highest oil production capacity to date and one of the largest external turrets used offshore. This is a testament to the capabilities and dedication of our employees, our partners, and our contractors,” said Mr. Leon Harland, Chief Executive Officer of Bumi Armada.

Armada Olombendo FPSO will utilise an external turret with 18 risers and umbilicals connected to the turret. The FPSO has a net storage capacity of 1,700,000 barrels while having a crude oil production rate of 80,000 bopd*, 120,000 bwpd* water injection, and 120 MMscfd* gas handling capacities.
The FPSO has a topside weight of 17,800 tonnes and will be moored at a water depth of 450 meters. The vessel was converted from a VLCC tanker to an FPSO, which measures 382 metres in length and 58 metres in width with a design life of 20 years.
“The Armada Olombendo FPSO is expected to produce first oil in the first half of 2017,” concluded Harland.
