Golden Becker Mewis Duct® at Smm 2014 - the top-selling Product has already cut Co2 by 900,000 Tonnes
Six new orders for Becker Twisted Fins®, the celebration of the 750th Becker Mewis DuctⓇ, and the successful launch of the first LNG Hybrid Barge soon to be deployed at the Port of Hamburg—Becker Marine Systems is striking a positive balance at this year's SMM.
It will be making quite an impression at the Hamburg exhibition grounds—a golden Becker Mewis DuctⓇ with a large "750" in the middle will be one of SMM 2014's "head-turners."
"This is how we are celebrating the 750th unit of our top-selling product," said Dirk Lehmann, Managing Director of Becker Marine Systems. More than 800 units of the highly efficient nozzle for reducing energy consumption have now been sold. According to Lehmann, "All of the nozzles delivered thus far have already been able to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 900,000 tonnes." The million-tonne CO₂ mark is projected to be exceeded this year.
With the issues of efficiency and sustainability, Becker Marine Systems is in line with the trend at the leading trade fair for the maritime industry.

For its Twisted Flap Rudder TLFKSR, Becker Marine Systems was recently awarded six new orders for 12,500 dwt multipurpose ships. Two orders are from Krey Schiffahrt and four additional orders from the Briese shipping company—both companies are headquartered in the East Frisian city of Leer.
Shortly before the start of the trade fair, on 5th September 2014, Becker Marine Systems was able to carry out the launch of the LNG Hybrid Barge in Komárno, Slovakia. "After a 1,500 kilometre trip from its manufacturing site along the Danube, the LNG Hybrid Barge will be arriving at the Port of Hamburg and, following a naming ceremony, will be transferring environmentally-friendly energy to a cruise ship for the first time in October," said Kuhlmann. The barge will be employing the low-emission fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG).
In addition, at SMM 2014, Becker Marine Systems will be presenting the LNG PowerPac, an LNG-powered generator for ships in port operations. The company would also like to encourage the widespread use of grease-free rudder systems. To prevent grease from ships getting into the sea, completely grease-free and heavy-duty polymer bearing systems have been developed in collaboration with various manufacturers—a further step towards improving environmental protection in the global shipping industry.
The Hamburg-based company is forecast to increase sales by about 20 per cent in the current business year. By the end of the year, the number of employees worldwide will be 230, with 135 in Hamburg. Becker Marine Systems has recently opened its own Houston (USA) office.
